At Bodfari Charcoal we have a Coppice Apprentice, Natasha Twigg (Twiggy). She is due to complete her three years in the summer of 2007 and will then be going on to set up her own business.
Twiggy entered her apprenticeship through the Bill Hogarth Memorial Apprenticeship Trust (BHMAT). She is the first Coppice Apprentice in Wales for many generations.
The revival of proper coppice apprenticeships is part of the growing interest in more traditional forms of woodland management that bring so many benefits to the landscape, biodiversity and local employment.
